Paramedic Program Schedule & Admission


PROGRAM SCHEDULE

PARAMEDIC PROGRAM ADMISSION

Program Enrollment Requirements

Navarro College EMS programs meet the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) and The National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) requirements for certification eligibility. Upon successful completion of the EMT certificate program or the Paramedic program (certificate or AAS degree), students must be eligible for TDSHS’s required National Registry of EMT/Paramedic certification examination.

Requirements to become enrolled in the program include:

  • TSI completion

  • Criminal Background check

  • Drug screening

  • Health assessment by a physician

  • Up-to-date vaccination

  • Mandatory attendance at orientation

  • Complete enrollment package provided at the time of registration

 

An applicant convicted of a felony and/or misdemeanor offense may or may not be eligible for participation and/or state certification. Any applicant who has a drug screening returned as questionable or positive, must follow the program’s policy of speaking with a Medical Review Officer and may or may not be dismissed from the program.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS


Step 1: Apply to Navarro College

  1.  Apply for Admission to Navarro College

  2. Complete EMS Enrollment Requirements*

 

Additional Requirements 

  1. Must have EMT Basic Certificate Certification

  2. Must have EMT National Registry

  3. Must complete one of the following pre-requisites:

BIOL 2401 (Anatomy & Physiology I) or

BIOL 2404 (Anatomy & Physiology)

 

*Information regarding EMS Enrollment Requirements

1. Navarro College ID number (after you apply for admission to NC)

2. TSI requirements

3. Immunizations (see information below regarding immunizations)

Immunizations

A. The Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation Community Standards Listen require that all students in health-related programs complete the following immunizations before applying to programs where patient contact is a component.

B. If you know you will be registering for our Emergency Medical Technician program within the next year, you will need to start these now because some will take up to 7 months to complete the series.

C. In order to be eligible to apply, you will need to have proof that you have completed the following immunizations:

- Hepatitis B – Complete series of three or Positive Titer**

- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - Series of two immunizations needed or Positive Titer**

- Varicella – Two immunizations or Positive Titer**

- Influenza - Current season immunization for Fall and Spring Classes
(Info required: name, date, lot number, site of injection, signature of person administering the vaccine)
- Medical Release - Form is included in the registration packet


D. **Notes: Titers showing positive immunity to the diseases will be acceptable. Record must display IgG and lab values and ranges


E. Tuberculosis Test: Blood test required yearly or inquire about skin test

 

 

Step 2: Paramedic Program Registration

Registration must be completed with the EMS Department through the Academic Advisors on the Waxahachie Campus. Students are encouraged to frequently contact their Academic Advisors for progress in the registration process.

  • CPR card is required by the 1st day of class
    Must be American Heart Healthcare Provider - offered at Navarro College through the Continuing Education Department or by phone at (972) 923-6441. 

 

Step 3: Post-Registration Requirements

1. You will need to be prepared to meet the following additional requirements – before the first day of class – if you are accepted to the EMS program:

A. CPR Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider)

B. Physical Exam

C. Criminal Background Check

D. Health Insurance

 

2. You will learn more about these requirements after you have successfully registered for the current semester and you have received your EMS packet. Mandatory orientation dates are provided in the EMS packet after registering with a program.

3. Drug Screenings include urine and/or hair follicle samples.
