After graduating from Kerens High School in 1957, Lary Reed earned his degree from Navarro College in 1959.

He graduated from the East Texas State in 1961.

Reed began teaching industrial education at Navarro College in 1962.

In 1967, he was named Director of Technical Arts Education and then Dean of Technical Arts at Navarro College.

Reed became Assistant Vice President in 1972 under then Navarro College President, Dr. Ben Jones.

Served as interim Navarro College President three times, leading the College during the transition between four presidents: Dr. Jones, Dr. Kenneth Walker, Dr. Gerald Burson, and Dr. Richard Sanchez.

Retired from Navarro College in 2006 after 40 years of service.

Awarded the Navarro College Senior Administrator Emeritius title in 2006.
